John McLeon and his wife Sarah live in Del Rio, and the McLeon tradition of military service dates back to the Revolutionary War. McLeon holds a Bachelor of Science from Texas A&M University, where he was a member of the Corps of Cadets and worked in the Veteran Services Office.
McLeon enlisted in the Texas Army National Guard at the age of 17. His military service includes deployments to Somalia, leadership roles during the 2021 Presidential Inauguration, and security operations during the 2020 unrest in Dallas and at the Texas State Capitol. Most recently, he led security efforts in Eagle Pass and Del Rio as part of Operation Lone Star from 2021 to 2025. He is currently a Sergeant First Class and serves as the Sniper Section Leader for 3/278th ACR.
McLeon is currently deployed to the Middle East in support of Operation Spartan Shield and will return toward the end of 2025 to finish out the campaign for House District 74.
